More than a clinical service:

A healthcare cooperative rooted in community and solidarity

“Everything worthwhile is done with other people.”

We Take Care of Us is working to shift the conventional power dynamics between providers and recipients of care. We’re moving beyond an individualistic approach to health and growing a community in which We Take Care of Us.

  • Telehealth utilizes telecommunications to provide medical care without requiring an in-person visit. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many healthcare providers adapted to telehealth upon discovering how many common health concerns could be effectively treated virtually. Healthcare recipients have also come to appreciate the convenience and safety of accessing care from the comfort home, as well as the ability to seek out providers based on values-alignment and quality of care rather than geography.

We Take Care of Us utilizes a secure and HIPAA-compliant Electronic Health Record, as well as secure communications technologies to ensure your privacy and safety.

  • At this time we are not accepting insurance. We are committed to making care accessible and fostering solidarity within our care community through a sliding scale fee structure. Our intake forms allow each person seeking care to indicate where they fall on our sliding scale. If additional assistance is needed to access our care, let us know and we’ll do our best to work with you!

Some insurers may reimburse you for the cost of care you receive from out-of-network providers, such as We Take Care of Us. If you have private insurance, you can check to see if your policy includes reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses. We will be happy to provide any documentation requested by your insurer.

  • We use sliding scale pricing, which differs by service. For example, emergency contraception ranges for $20-$60 and medication abortion ranges from $100-$580. We ask that each person honestly assess where they fall on the sliding scale based on factors such as income, wealth and relative privilege/marginalization. Our intake forms explain the sliding scale for each service, and you select the price that suits your personal circumstances. We have tools to help you assess where you are on the scale, if needed. If you find that you cannot afford the solidarity rate, please let us know and we'll do our best to work with you!

  • Certified Nurse Midwives are primary healthcare providers for individuals who have a uterus; from menarche, during the reproductive years and throughout menopause. CNMs focus on health promotion, wellness care, gynecologic and family planning services, as well as childbearing.

  • Yes! As Certified Nurse Midwives, we are licensed to prescribe a wide range of medications. Currently, we are able to prescribe abortion pills in NY, NJ and IL. Due to Pennsylvania's Abortion Control Act, we can prescribe only non-abortion medications in PA. If you are a PA resident seeking medication abortion, we invite you to schedule a free 15 minute consultation and we'll be happy to help you find the best option given your location and situation.

  • Cooperatives are organizations owned, run and governed by and for their members, to meet common economic, social, and cultural goals. We Take Care of Us is forming as a cooperative to undo the traditional hierarchies of healthcare, replacing them with shared governance and solidarity among all members of our care community.

  • We Take Care of Us has formed as a worker cooperative. Currently, membership consists of our midwives and other staff. Over time, we plan to grow into a multi-stakeholder cooperative. This means recipients of care and other community stakeholders can also become members, and share in governance of the healthcare space we create together. To do this we need your input and guidance!
